Message from our CEO

When I look back, I realize it took me twenty years to fully understand the lessons of those first ten. Our greatest challenges were never about resources or logistics — they were about relationships.

Sankofa’s journey has always been a faith walk. Before the organization could grow, I had to grow. I had to deepen my relationship with God, and that relationship became our anchor through every storm. It is the reason we are still standing today.

The second challenge was earning the trust of the people we came to serve. Not through short-term aid, but through long-term partnership. We listened. We lived among the people. We learned from them. And slowly, trust took root. Once faith and trust were in place, everything else — funding, projects, even growth — began to fall into place.

Over the years, I’ve learned this truth: relationships are the real infrastructure of transformation. Without them, nothing lasts.

What gives me hope is watching people create change with what little they have—and do so with joy. I’ve seen mothers form cooperatives that feed dozens of families. I’ve seen young people teaching others to read under a single streetlight. These moments remind me that the power for transformation is already inside the community. Our role is to nurture it, not replace it.

Since 1994, Sankofa International has walked alongside struggling communities and villages in Ghana, helping them become self-sustaining. Together, we have fed the hungry, clothed the naked, offered scholarships, hosted life management workshops, and supported families on their journey toward dignity and hope. These are not just programs — they are testimonies of what faith, partnership, and perseverance can accomplish.

Across Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, and throughout the continent, the challenges are similar — healthcare, education, food, and basic needs. But the deeper question remains: How do we build solutions that last?

Our vision is to create a living model in Ghana — one that helps communities grow from within. Once that model is thriving, we can replicate it across Africa, adapting it to local realities while keeping the same foundation of faith, partnership, and empowerment.

To make that vision a reality, we must strengthen three pillars:

  • Partnerships — across churches, NGOs, and businesses that share our heart for service.
  • Volunteer networks — because skilled hands and willing hearts bring the vision to life.
  • Empowerment — ensuring communities own their development and shape their future.

When people are empowered, they don’t just survive — they thrive. And when one community rises, Africa rises.

Change does not begin with big organizations or governments. It begins with people who care — one village, one act of faith, one hand extended in hope. That is where Sankofa began, and that is where Africa’s future begins.
